Health Care Center
Many activities are offered each month and all residents are encouraged and welcome to attend. All activities take place in the 2nd floor Community Room unless otherwise noted. Click the link below to view the activity schedule for the current month.
Descriptions of regularly scheduled activities can be found below:
Bible Study-HCC residents meet with the GHBC Chaplain for 30 minutes for singing and a look at a scriptural passage or a spiritual concept, often relating to the previous Sunday’s message or a spiritual theme of the season. The discussion generally begins and ends with one or two familiar hymns either chosen by the residents or related to the theme of the day’s discussion. The discussion may be chaplain-planned but is resident-driven in the direction that it takes. HCC staff and interns actively participate in, and assist with, the weekly discussions.
Chair-Chi Exercises-A fun, low impact exercise program designed to help residents recieve the benefits of traditional Tai Chi and promotes range of motion, stretching and relaxation.
Food for Others Service Project- GHBC’s service project. Residents come together to help fill bags with different snacks to help families in need.
Kreeger Museum Outing-A monthly outing to attend the Conversations program held at the Kreeger Museum in Washington, DC. This special program is specifically designed for individuals with memory disorders and their caregivers. The program uses art and music to "stimulate reflection, reduce stress, and increase communication and sociability."
Munch & Mingle-A great way for residents to socialize and enjoy an afternoon snack.
Nutrition Corner with Alison- GHBC’s Dietician Alison leads an educational and fun program to discuss different nutritional foods and the benefits of eating healthy. Each week she incorporates the food she discusses into a yummy treat that participants can try!
Scenic Drives- Each month residents have the opportunity to relax and enjoy a ride around a chosen destination. Past destinations have included Mt. Vernon and the Tidal Basin.
SHINE-This event takes place once a month and is a music and spiritual program led by volunteers and Goodwin House Residential Living residents.
